This Love Sped up
In this video we had to play the song This Love half the speed it usually is. Mitch then sang the song at this speed whilst Me and Jack danced as quickly as we could. We then sped the the video us so that the song was normal speed. By doing this me and Jack looked as if we were moving very fast. This process was a little challenging but that was only because of the energy needed to dance very quickly, apart from that it wasn't very challenging because it was very easy to film and speed up the video. If I was going to use this technique in a music video I would do it at a point where the lyrics don’t have a lot of meaning. This is because this technique doesn’t really show a lot visually, just people moving fast in the background.
Daft Punk Group Dance
For this video our group had to pick a song and create a dance routine for around 30 seconds of the song. There wasn't a lot of editing used for this video, we just had to edit the song in. This was probably one of the more challenging videos that we did because we had to create a whole dance routine that lasted around 30 second. This was hard for a group of boys who never dance. It took us a long time to think of what dance moves we were going to do but we eventually managed it. If I was going to use this technique in a music video I would probably use it in a video for a pop music video, this is because dancing is mainly a generic convention of pop music videos. It could be used in other music videos for things such as dance music as well but it wouldn't be used for a rock music video.
Dylan Backwards
For this video I had to put on a lot of layers of clothes, I then had to throw them off whilst walking backwards. Once this had all been filmed we then edited the video and made it go backwards. Then when we played the video it looked like all the clothes were coming back to me and I was putting them on. This was a very easy video to film because all I had to do was throw the different items of clothing on the floor. The only problem we had was at the beginning when I kept hitting the tripod with the bag when I threw it off. I'm not quite sure when I would use this in a music video, maybe when its just music playing and there's not lot to show.
Stop Motion Skating
For this video we had Mitch using me as a skateboard. He was stood on my back as we moved down the corridor. This video was one that took a long time as was probably the hardest video we did because of how long the shots and editing took. For each shot Mitch had to stand on my back for around five seconds, we then had to move forward a little bit and wait another five seconds. We had to do this all the way down the corridor which took a long time. Once we had filmed we then had to edit which also took a long time, we had to take a still frame of every time me and Mitch had moved, we then has to make all the shots last around half a second each and the video was complete. You could use this in many different music videos, I would use it to change every time there was a beat in the song.
Stop Motion Walking
This video was the first stop motion video we did. Just so we could get used to shooting and editing a stop motion video we only did a simple task which was walking. Basically I would start walking but hold the position for five seconds each time I moved a little, I did this continuously until I was out of shot. This was quite an easy video to do but the editing still took some time because we had to get a still frame of every time I moved. We then had to make each still frame last around half a second. Again I would use this in many different types of music videos, mainly I would use it when the beat changes a lot. Making the person look like they move in the beat.
Lip Sync Videos
This was the first test shoot video we did as a group. For this task we had to lip sync the chorus of a song of our choice. We had to do this three times. The first time we just had to sing the chorus, no movement and no emotion shown, the second time we had to try and now more emotion and open our mouths wider when we sang. For the third video we had to try and show even more emotion and also add in hand movements to match the lyrics. This was probably the hardest video we had to do,not because it was a challenging task, because of the embarrassment of singing to a camera and knowing that people would watch it. This is something that is used in a lot of music videos and I would use it in mine for most of the video.
Shot for Shot music video
The shot for shot video was hard to copy at times as its large use of Mise en scene meant at times shots were not exact or as close to the real product as we would have liked. However after a lot of planning the filming was relatively easy as we knew what each shot type was, therefore filming was quick, editing and synching the video with the music did take longer as shots had to be made smaller in length and edit with each beat. Overall it was a good experience and taught us some skills such as synching.
Playing Card Test
In this test shoot we wanted to see how we could make our reverse falling card shot look as good as possible. We filmed so that we could try to see what technique worked the best and separating all of the cards when they were thrown into the air. Once we has found the best technique we then filmed it and had to edit. As you can see below we reversed the shot so that it looks like the cards started on the ground and they float into the sky. This is something we hope to achieve in our music video.
Standing to sitting test
One of things that we want to do in our music video is to make Alice look as is she has gone from sitting down to standing up with no effort whatsoever. After having a few ideas we thought that the best one would be to try falling into a sitting down position and then reversing the shot. As you can see here Jack goes form a sitting position to a standing position with no effort at all. This is because the shot is reversed.
180 Degree Cut Test
One of Jacks ideas for our music video was to have a 180 degree cut of Alice when she was sitting down. To test to see if this try of idea would be any good we tried it out to test it. By using the video below we can see what looks good and what looks bad so that we can make it look even better in our music video.
Reverse Jump Test
Here is another idea we had for Alice in the music video. This would be for when she joins the Mad Hatters tea party in the forest. Instead of getting her to sit down normally Jack thought it would look better if it looked like she jumped into the chair. This of course would be very difficult and dangerous to achieve normally so instead Jack started off by sitting in the chair and jumped out of it. By reversing the clip it then looks like he has jumped into the chair.
